Design Tips for Scrapbooking Layouts
Scrapbooking is a wonderful opportunity to use your imagination and creativity. But when I was working on my first couple of scrapbooks, it didn’t seem like I had any good ideas at all. I started looking for examples to follow and tried to figure out what I thought looked good. The great thing about scrapbooking is that there is no single plan you have to follow. You can be as individual as you want. But sometimes, it helps to have some general guidelines with which to get started. So I’ve listed some design tips below.
Try to create a focal point. Every page should be about a single idea. The focal point is a single photo or memento that captures the essence of that idea. It doesn’t necessarily have to be in the middle of the page, but it should be striking enough to quickly attract the attention of anyone looking at the page.
Crop your photos for greatest impact. Unless you are very lucky, pictures often have some distracting element in them. Cropping your photos is the best way to keep the page focused on a single theme.
Keep things simple and consistent. Simple designs look good and will help you get your scrapbook done. Once you have chosen a design, keep it going to the end of that scrapbook. This consistency will go a long way toward making your project look professionally done. And, as you complete each page, you will become more practiced and adept at putting the pages together.
Part of keeping things consistent is to use the same style of frames and ribbons throughout the book. It will help you carry your chosen look through the album, and could help you save money by buying items and accessories in bulk.
